I received my sample of your block paving sealer and when I tried it I was amazed because it is exactly what I have been looking for. I have tried many other sealers which were no good. I cannot wait for my order to come to get started. Thank you so much.

First time I've tried this block paving sealer and a few years since I last treated the drive. Its's not the cheapest, but it performed exactly as expected. The blocks do look darker (perhaps more uniform colour??) with the sand in between hardened and the surface very waterproof with water beading, whereas I didn't have this before. The surface does look more 'silky' than the 'dusty' appearance it had before. I would use this again but as with all product, preparation is the key (jet wash, re-sand and dry completely & it does smell quite strong but not as bad as other products I've used. I did apply two coats as per instructions.

Excellent service. The 5 litre can of sealer was in my home less than 2 days after I ordered it. I was very critical about surface preparation before I started. The block paviours on my patio have been down for at least 30 years. The sealer went down easily but with a high toxic smell. Superb improvement.

Technical

Application

Smartseal Block Paving sealer can be applied using a sprayer unit or roller, at a rate of 2.0m2 per litre (pavers) 1st coat & 3.5 m2 per litre 2nd coat. A two-coat spray application is required to fully cover the jointing sand. The sealer will be tack free within 2 hours at 20°C and foot traffic may be permitted after 4 hours. Vehicles should be kept off the sealed area for a minimum of 24 hours at 20°C. These times may be increased or reduced depending on the ambient temperature. During the curing cycle, protect from rain. Do not apply when the ground temperature is above 23°C or below 12°C. All equipment should be cleaned with Smartseal cleaner fluid after use.

Deicing salts should not be applied directly on Smartseal block paving or concrete sealers. Salt chemically reduces the temperature at which water freezes and will result in water ingress into the concrete. Subsequent freezing may result in the concrete seal being broken by the expansion of water as it freezes and white pitted areas may become visible.

NOT TO BE USED ON CLAY PAVERS

*** If your Block Paving has been previously sealed - to ensure compatibility, please contact us here before ordering: https://www.smartseal.co.uk/help-advice/contact-us.htm

Preparation

New block paving or cobble stone paving should be swept clean, ensuring there is sufficient well-compacted sand in the joints. Existing paving should be pressure washed to remove all surface debris. If the area is contaminated with weeds & moss then it should be treated with Smartseal Fungicidal Wash. Oil and other stains should be removed using Smartseal Cleaner / Oil Remover. The treated area should then be left to dry and the joints re-sanded & compacted to the lower edge of the paver chamfers with clean kiln-dried sand. Moisture in the paver & sand will inhibit penetration of the sealer and produce whiteness.

Technical & Test Data

Smartseal Block Paving sealer has been tested by the TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) and certified that it meets the SRV (Skid Resistance Value) for all categories of paving for local authority pedestrian areas and when heavily trafficked is suitable for special applications where risks of skidding are high as laid down in the UK Highway Authorities Tender Specification. Copies available on request.

Specification Clause

Product FAQs

Q: Hi, I have a small border of single paving blocks running around our garden, can the Silk product be applied by brush?

Steve

A: Yes, the silk or matt block paving sealer can be applied by brush.

Response from Nigel

Q: Hi. I've applied 2 coats of matt block paving sealer today. I have 1 part of my drive around 14 years old and 1 part 3 years old. They seem to match in better when it's wet would a coat of silk over the top give me this effect and also would it soak in after 2 coats? Thanks

Ryan Colbert

A: If the base coat is Matt, you can apply the Block Paving Sealer Silk over the top. If you've applied 2 coats of Matt, you would only want to apply 1 coat of Silk.

Response from Alex

Q: How many litres will cover of 500 square meters

Harjinder Singh

A: The Block paving Sealer Silk or Matt will cover 2m2 per lite on a 1st coat and 3.5m2 on a 2nd coat. For 500m2, you would require 250L on a 1st coat and 143L on a 2nd coat.
