Application
Smartseal Patio sealer can be applied using a sprayer unit or roller, at a rate of 4 m2 per litre (pavers) 1st coat & 5 m2 per litre 2nd coat. A two-coat spray application is required to fully cover the jointing sand. The sealer will be tack free within 2 hours at 20°C and foot traffic may be permitted after 4 hours. These times may be increased or reduced depending on the ambient temperature. During the curing cycle, protect from rain. Do not apply when the ground temperature is above 30°C or below 5°C. All equipment should be cleaned with Smartseal cleaning fluid after use.
De-icing salts should not be applied directly on Smartseal block paving, patio or concrete sealers. Salt chemically reduces the temperature at which water freezes and will result in water ingress into the concrete. Subsequent freezing may result in the concrete ‘seal’ being broken by the expansion of water as it freezes and white ‘pitted’ areas may become visible.
Preparation
New Patios should be swept clean, ensuring there is sufficient pointing in the joints. Existing paving should be pressure washed to remove all surface debris. If the area is contaminated with weeds & moss then it should be treated with Smartseal Moss Clear. Oil should be removed using Smartseal Oil Remover. The treated area should then be left to dry and the joints re-sanded & compacted to the lower edge of the paver chamfers with clean kiln-dried sand. Moisture in the paver & sand will inhibit penetration of the sealer and produce whiteness.
Technical & Test Data
Smartseal Patio sealer has been tested by the TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) and certified that it meets the SRV (Skid Resistance Value) for all categories of paving for local authority pedestrian areas and when heavily trafficked is suitable for special applications where risks of skidding are high as laid down in the UK Highway Authorities Tender Specification. Copies available on request.

Q: I have just completed sealing my concrete-paved driveway and path with patio sealer, and have applied two coats, as recommended. The results are very good, but I'd like to see if a third coat will enhance the finish. Do you know of any reason why a third coat should not be applied?
A: You could apply a third coat of patio sealer if you wanted to but it is unlikely to make much difference to the appearance after two coats have already been applied.
Q: What is the solvent for cleaning your brush?
A: You would need a Xylene based cleaner to clean the brushes after using the patio sealer. We sell application tools cleaning fluid but you may only need a small sample size to clean brushes.
Q: Can this be used on Brazilian Black Slate?
A: We would not advise using the patio sealer on Brazilian black slte. The patio sealer is for use on concrete paving slabs. You may want to consider using the black limestone sealer in this situation.
After trying other sealing products on my patio slabs , I was convinced that I was wasting good money after bad. All the reviews were the same , this is the best one ,value for money etc. I decided to try smart seal patio sealer a bit more expensive than others , but again the reviews were the same. I jet washed and re sanded the slabs , gave it two coats of smart seal as instructed . I have to say THIS IS THE BEST ONE BY FAR . The slabs look brand new and you can see the water repellent when it rains .highly recommend great product . Ive just bought 3 x5 litres , not cheap but well worth it .
Very happy with quick delivery. Good product, brought back to life my faded patio slabs. I like the waterproofing effect too. Will use again.
