Product Reviews
By Peter Smith

I had my imprinted driveway laid around 12 years ago and it has lasted very well but started to look very tired. I purchased from smartseal 2 x 25litre drums of sealer, colour tint, mastic, repair cement, their driveway/patio cleaner plus their broom to apply the sealant. I watched the video on U Tube several times and completed the exactly as recommended and my driveway now looks like new again. It was time consuming as its a fairly large driveway but with 3 coats Im very impressed Thank you Smarseal 66 Year old, size 10 shoe and a 38inch waste. If I can anyone can !!

My four year old concrete imprinted drive now looks like new. As advised by the technical representative using the anti slip powder with a very thin coat of matt sealer produced a really good finish with remarkable grip even when wet.. Will certainly use again.

I bought the 25lt drum of mat drive sealer and a tub od anty slip granuals for my concrete printed drive it looks great after 2 coats. The brush I bought last time is not very good as the bristle keep coming out leaving hairs on top of sealer. But I like the products and it had lasted over 3 years from last time I used it.

Product Description

Matt Finish Patterned Imprinted Concrete Sealer for Driveways and Patios.

A hard wearing imprinted concrete sealer with a Matt look finish

Our matt finish Imprinted Concrete Sealer has been specially formulated to help with re-colouring and re-sealing of imprinted concrete driveways and patios. It will also help restore the original colouring of the surface of stamped or pressed concrete. It is non-yellowing and has an excellent resistance to water, alkalis and acids. It also contains a UV absorber to improve protection from ultra-violet light and prevent colour loss.

  • Protects the surface from oil and other staining.
  • Seals, protects and enhances the surface of all pattern imprinted concrete.
  • Easily applied by sprayer or broom.
  • Protects against colour loss and surface wear.
  • Average coverage: 4 to 5 m² per litre (dependent on condition).
  • Make sure before applying that the surface temperature is between 10 - 20°C
  • Can be combined with Smartseal colour tints to restore original colour of paving
  • Smartseal 'Anti-Slip Additive' can be added for extra surface grip
  • Hardens & seals concrete permanently
  • Non-remulsifiable, non-blooming when wet
  • Tough, Durable and Hard Wearing
  • Designed for use with Pattern Imprinted Concrete
  • Petrol, Diesel, Oil & Grease resistant
Application Guidelines:
  1. Make sure that surface area is completely clean.
  2. Make sure that the surface area is bone dry (allow 3-4 dry days after cleaning)
  3. The Imprinted Concrete Sealer is commonly a 2 coat application, however due to age and condition of the surface, this may vary to get a 'uniform' finish. Please contact us providing pictures if unsure. Furthermore, samples are available to try on a test area.
  4. Apply sealer to the surface using a broom or sprayer. (allow 1-2 hours minimum between coats).
  5. Allow 4 hours before walking and 24 hours before any vehicle traffic on the surface (for the sealer to cure and bond to the concrete).

PLEASE REFER to our YouTube Channel if unsure regarding the use of colour tint.

After correctly applying the sealer, expect to have between 3-5 years protection. Sealer protection will vary dependent on a number of factors such as: traffic (foot/vehicle), weather and general maintenance.

Technical

Application

The imprinted concrete slab must be fully surface dry after washing the paving off by pressure washing. Brush slab to remove any dirt or debris. Must be applied via a paving sprayer or soft broom normally in two equal applications, keeping the paving sprayer head moving to avoid pooling. The first application must be brushed into the surface and allowed to dry past tacky prior to applying the second coat of sealer onto the paving. Avoid application in strong, direct sunlight - do not apply if rain is likely within 6 hours of application.

Deicing salts should not be applied directly on Smartseal block paving or concrete sealers. Salt chemically reduces the temperature at which water freezes and will result in water ingress into the concrete. Subsequent freezing may result in the concrete seal being broken by the expansion of water as it freezes and white pitted areas may become visible.

Technical & Test Data

Has been tested by the TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) and certified that it meets the SRV (Skid Resistance Value) for all categories of paving for local authority pedestrian areas and when heavily trafficked is suitable for special applications where risks of skidding are high as laid down in the UK Highway Authorities Tender Specification. Copies available on request.

Health & Safety

Flammable liquid. Do not smoke. Keep application area well ventilated. Wear respirator when applying. Store in a cool place. Flash point 42°C (Abel-Closed Cup). Refer to the Health & Safety Data Sheet for further information.

Product FAQs

Q: How many square meters will 25 litres cover

John

A: Average coverage of the imprinted concrete sealer is 4-6 m2 per litre. This would depend on age, condition and amount of sealer still present. Hope that helps.

Response from Nigel

Q: Hi I have recently purchased from you a 25 litre drum of silk sealer along with the anti slip additive to reseal my patio. I have decided however that I would like to reseal my drive first since the colour is now extremely patchy no doubt a result of leaving it for too long before resealing it. My question is, will a new application of sealant improve its appearance by dissolving the existing surface and redistributing the colour or would I need a colour tint in which case I would need to use a Matt sealant. If the latter is the case could I use the Matt sealer and the colour tint as a first coat and the silk sealant with the non slip additive as a second coat? Many thanks

Peter Doherty

A: If the driveway still looks patchy when wet then adding some colour tint will help to create a uniform colour for the surface. Adding some colour tint to a matt sealer is our recommendation and you can use the silk sealer as a second coat with a little bit of colour tint if necessary. If you are unsure how to proceed, please upload some images under our 'Help & Advice' tab or call our office and talk to one of our technical team.

Q: Hi I have some sealer left. How long does it keep once opened?

Narm

A: We usually say 12 months unopened if stored in areas away from extreme heat or cold. If opened the lifespan is usually less but wehave known customers using opened tins well after 12 months. If the sealer is clear once re-opened it should be OK to use, but best try a test area first.
