Impregnating sealer for Limestone slabs and floors
Smartseal Limestone Sealer is a high quality, clear, solvent free acrylic impregnating coating system. Application of the sealer will alter the chemical structure of the porous limestone providing a excellent water repellent and stain resistant surface.
- One coat application to saturation, or for best results, apply a second coat once 'touch dry'
- 1 x 5 litre will treat up to 40 mē
- Resistant to algae, lichen and staining
- Will leave surface "Dry/Natural" dependent on porosity of surface
- Average coverage: 1st coat 5 - 8 mē per litre, 2nd coat 8-16 sq/m (dependant on porosity and finish of the surface)
- Touch dry in 2 - 3 hours
- Fully waterproof 24 hours
- Lifespan of approx. 5 years can be expected
PREPARATION: Prior to application of limestone sealer ensure surfaces to be sealed are clean, dry and free from contamination. If algae or stains are present pre treat prior to cleaning with a appropriate cleaning product. If required, fully clean off using pressure washer and leave to dry thoroughly for at least 3 days.
Always test product on-site, in an inconspicuous area, to ensure you fully are satisfied with the final appearance/ colour of the surface.
**If being applied to a recently laid external Limestone patio or path, where a "sweep-in" pointing compound was used, as a precautionary measure we advise the natural stone must be fully cleaned with Smartseal Residue Remover prior to sealant application.**** Please get in touch for further advice.
APPLICATION: Shake container well before use. A suitable pressure sprayer, roller, sponge or brush is recommended taking care to avoid any pooling. Application on all substrates should be to full saturation and on vertical surfaces commence at the bottom and work upwards. For internal surfaces application by a suitable cloth is appropriate. Do not apply in damp conditions or at temperatures below 13-23°C.
Applying one coat to saturation is normally sufficient. For best results, apply one coat to saturation and once touch dry, a 2nd lighter coat can be applied ('wet on wet' finish). If over application does occur on either coats, excess sealer can be removed with a dry roller or sponge. Ensure this is done within 45 minutes.
All equipment should be cleaned with water immediately after use.
SHELF LIFE: Store away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. Protect from frost.
12 months shelf life (in original sealed container). Once opened use within 3 months.
Q: I purchased a sample dry finish for limestone to test on samples before committing to solution. After following your guidance (2 coats) I found that oil staining was still an issue. I left then pool of sealant overnight and I found it worked much better, without any detrimental effect on stone. Why is it not recommended?
A: The natural stone sealer dry finish is a flouropolymer based sealer and is formulated to have some stain resistance. If you saturate the area, it will have more stain resistance than applying the two even coats we recommend.
Q: Is this product suitable on exterior rough faced travertine Limestone wall. What is the life span of the product once applied.
A: The Limestone Sealer - DRY is suitable on an exterior rough faced travertine Limestone wall. However, if you are concerned about water ingress then the masonry cream may be the better product to apply.
Q: Hi, does this protect against oil stains? We have a limecrete floor in the kitchen which I'm hoping to seal with this product. Many thanks
A: Yes, the limestone sealer contains polymers that are stain resistance (samples available). Please be aware, not sealers are stain proof, but are stain resistant. This enables removal of the stains if they are wiped away relatively quickly ( not left for days before treatment) Hope that helps.
I tried a test sample of both the natural and the colour enhancer sealant on grey Indian limestone . Opted for the natural as I didnt want the appearance of the limestone to be altered (the colour enhancer left a sheen - though not unpleasant). It went on easily (used a brush) and Im happy with the results. The stones appearance is unchanged but after rain it looks like the sealant is doing its job.
Used this limestone sealer to protect the hearth of my fire when Im cleaning it, it works great I no longer get the wet marks when Im cleaning would highly recommend
Used to stabilise and seal the interior of crumbling sandstone mullion windows - worked really well
