After correctly applying the sealer, expect to have between 3-5 years protection*. Sealer longevity will vary dependent on a number of factors such as: traffic (foot/vehicle), weather and general maintenance.
Recommended coverage
First coat: 2.0sq. metres per litre
Second coat: 3.5sq metres per litre
Application
Smartseal Block Paving sealer can be applied using a sprayer unit or roller, at a rate of 2.0m2 per litre (pavers) 1st coat & 3.5 m2 per litre 2nd coat. A two-coat spray application is required to fully cover the jointing sand. The sealer will be tack free within 2 hours at 20°C and foot traffic may be permitted after 4 hours. Vehicles should be kept off the sealed area for a minimum of 24 hours at 20°C. These times may be increased or reduced depending on the ambient temperature. During the curing cycle, protect from rain. Do not apply when the ground temperature is above 23°C or below 12°C. All equipment should be cleaned with Smartseal cleaner fluid after use.
Deicing salts should not be applied directly on Smartseal block paving or concrete sealers. Salt chemically reduces the temperature at which water freezes and will result in water ingress into the concrete. Subsequent freezing may result in the concrete seal being broken by the expansion of water as it freezes and white pitted areas may become visible.
NOT TO BE USED ON CLAY PAVERS

Preparation
New block paving or cobble stone paving should be swept clean, ensuring there is sufficient well-compacted sand in the joints. Existing paving should be pressure washed to remove all surface debris. If the area is contaminated with weeds & moss then it should be treated with Smartseal Fungicidal Wash. Oil and other stains should be removed using Smartseal Cleaner / Oil Remover. The treated area should then be left to dry and the joints re-sanded & compacted to the lower edge of the paver chamfers with clean kiln-dried sand. Moisture in the paver & sand will inhibit penetration of the sealer and produce whiteness.
Technical & Test Data
Smartseal Block Paving sealer has been tested by the TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) and certified that it meets the SRV (Skid Resistance Value) for all categories of paving for local authority pedestrian areas and when heavily trafficked is suitable for special applications where risks of skidding are high as laid down in the UK Highway Authorities Tender Specification. Copies available on request.

Q: I was advised to wait 3/6 months before sealing new block paving, to allow efflorescence to disappear. However under "Technical" on the Solvent Free Eco-friendly site, it states "New blocks - apply as soon as possible after installation". Which is correct please?
A: Waiting for a period is what most people do, to check whether any efflorescence starts to appear. However, many people seal newly laid block paving soon after it has been laid without issue. If the blocks look clean and free from efflorescence you could go ahead and seal them.
Q: I'm looking at doing my patio flags would your sealer be OK and would it make it slippy or can you put glass in it
A: The block paving sealer is not normally used to seal concrete flagstones. The best product to use is the patio sealer, which has been formulated for this purpose. We would not recommend adding an anti-slip additive or glass beads to the patio sealer.
Q: Is the Block paving sealer SATIN the same as I bought a few years ago which was called GLOSS
A: The silk sealer is what we regard as a satin/wet look sealer. We haven't sold a a product called gloss block paving sealer for over 10 years. Two coats of the silk sealer should give you the finish you desire.
I have used smartseal products for 10 years now and use the block paving sealer silk to finish the drive off. After a good clean it has made the drive look like new again. Once every 5 years I do the drive.
I was recommended block magic for my slabs which were red and I gave them 2 coats , they look amazing.. I had to phone for advice and spoke to Ricky who had great knowledge and was very professional with his advice. Thanks Ricky
I decided to do my block paving myself after 3 (count them, 3) 'professionals' failed to do it properly, the latest one charging me around 1,700 (there's a lot of driveway) and within 2 months stuff was growing between the cracks again. For couple of weeks work and a 25 litre barrel of SmartSeal costing a mere 145 I've got the section of block paving between my shed and kitchen window looking like a million bucks with all the sand between the blocks as hard as a rock. Nothing is growing in there. Just make sure you follow the tutorial videos to the letter, make sure everything is prepped and make sure it's bone dry before you put the sealer down if you want it to perform at it's best. I had a feeling as soon as I found the SmartSeal website that this was going to be an absolute winner and for me it has been. 5 stars. Now back to using the other 75 litres I've got to lay down.
